Why a verifiable credential matters more every month
The number of AI credentials is growing far faster than anyone's ability to judge them. US institutions offering AI bachelor's degrees went from 4 to 23 between 2020 and 2024, and master's programs from 19 to 60, while 16.5 percent of entry-level job postings now ask for AI skills (Government Technology, 2026). Generative-AI job postings grew 323 percent over the same stretch (The Hechinger Report, 2026).
The people who study this market are blunt about what that flood costs a hiring manager.
