February 2, 2025

Prohibited practices and AI literacy

Articles 4 and 5 apply: banned practices are off the market and the AI literacy duty covers every provider and deployer.

August 2, 2025

GPAI, governance and penalties

General-purpose AI model obligations, the notified-body machinery, governance structures and the penalty regime apply.

August 2, 2026

Enforcement powers and transparency

National market surveillance authorities gain formal enforcement powers, and Article 50 transparency obligations for AI-generated content apply.

December 2, 2026

New prohibitions and watermarking grace period ends

The Digital Omnibus's new Article 5 prohibitions on non-consensual intimate imagery and child sexual abuse material apply, and the Article 50(2) marking grace period for systems placed on the market before August 2, 2026 ends.

December 2, 2027

Standalone high-risk systems (moved by the Digital Omnibus)

The Digital Omnibus deferred the high-risk obligations: standalone Annex III systems must comply by this date.

August 2, 2028

AI embedded in regulated products

High-risk obligations for AI embedded in products under Annex I harmonisation law.

August 2, 2030

Public-sector legacy systems

Pre-existing high-risk AI systems used by public authorities must comply by this date.
