Out-of-band verification

Confirming a concern or a transaction through a channel the account holder or a potentially involved party did not choose or supply, such as contacting a resident's bank using contact information the facility already has on file rather than a number provided by an accompanying family member. (see Topic 11.1)

Defined in 3 GAGE programs, which carry 4 distinct definitions of it. The wording above is taught in Senior AI Scam Defense.

How each discipline defines it

The same term does different work depending on who is using it. These are the definitions as each program teaches them, unedited.

Senior AI Scam Defense

Confirming a concern or a transaction through a channel the account holder or a potentially involved party did not choose or supply, such as contacting a resident's bank using contact information the facility already has on file rather than a number provided by an accompanying family member. (see Topic 11.1)

Business AI Transformation

Confirming a request through a separate, pre-established channel the requester did not use to make it (for example, calling a known number to confirm a transfer requested over email or video), defeating deepfake and impersonation fraud because the attacker does not control that channel.

AI Data Governance: The Data Chair

An independent check on a pipeline's data that comes from outside both of the systems being compared, such as Iowa's paper preference cards, giving it evidentiary value neither disagreeing electronic system possesses alone.

Business AI Transformation

Checking the truth of a system's state through a path that does not run through that system, so a failing (or misreporting) AI cannot be the only witness to whether it failed. The core continuity principle behind the Replit recovery.
