A contained experiment designed to answer questions about an AI initiative that cannot be answered otherwise, and to produce one honest decision (scale, pivot, or kill). Distinct from a rollout, which executes a decision already made.
A small, deliberately bounded, time-limited test of a candidate system or approach on a real or representative task, run specifically to gather evidence before committing to a larger deployment decision.
The first rollout phase, running an AI step on sample or historical inputs to test whether it is good enough on real data; catches the "AI is not good at my task" failure mode.
