How each discipline defines it
The same term does different work depending on who is using it. These are the definitions as each program teaches them, unedited.
A federal standards body operating under its own statutory authority, independent of any specific executive order. NIST's AI publications, including the AI Risk Management Framework 1.0 (January 2023) and the AI 600-1 Generative AI Profile (July 26, 2024), remain in effect regardless of changes to executive orders that may have encouraged their adoption.
