How each discipline defines it
The same term does different work depending on who is using it. These are the definitions as each program teaches them, unedited.
Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, in force since 27 July 2026, which amended Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the EU AI Act) across multiple articles. Two separate changes matter for this program: it replaced Article 4 (the literacy obligation this topic covers) in full, and, in an unrelated provision, it deleted Article 10(5) and re-enacted it in extended form as a new stand-alone Article 4a covering special-category data for bias detection. The two are distinct amendments inside the same regulation, not the same change.

The European Union's 2026 amendment to the EU AI Act's implementation timeline, reaching political agreement May 7, 2026 and formally adopted by the Council June 29, 2026, postponing the Annex III high-risk obligations to December 2, 2027 and the Annex I obligations to August 2, 2028, while leaving the Article 50 transparency duty and the Commission's GPAI enforcement powers on their original August 2, 2026 date.
The EU package (political agreement May 7, 2026; formally adopted by Parliament June 16 and Council June 29, 2026) that postponed the AI Act's high-risk obligations (Annex III to December 2, 2027; Annex I to August 2, 2028) while leaving the prohibited-practices ban, AI-literacy duty, Article 50 transparency, and GPAI enforcement in place.
The 2026 simplification package (adopted by the Council of the EU on 29 June 2026) that amended the EU AI Act's timeline, deferring stand-alone Annex III high-risk obligations to 2 December 2027 and product-embedded high-risk to 2 August 2028, and adding new Article 5 prohibitions.
