Provider (EU AI Act)
The natural or legal person, public authority, agency, or other body that develops an AI system or a general-purpose AI model with a view to placing it on the market or putting it into service under its own name or trademark (Article 3(3)). Provider obligations for high-risk AI systems are set out in Article 16. Under Article 25(1), a distributor, importer, deployer, or other third party can become a provider by rebranding, substantially modifying, or changing the intended purpose of an AI system.

How each discipline defines it
The same term does different work depending on who is using it. These are the definitions as each program teaches them, unedited.

The party that develops an AI system or places it on the market under its own name or trademark; it carries the heaviest obligations under the Act.
