CE marking

The marking affixed by a provider of a high-risk AI system to indicate conformity with applicable requirements, including the EU AI Act, under Article 48 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689. CE marking is the provider's declaration, not a certification issued by an external body (though for certain systems a notified-body assessment is required before the marking can be affixed). A CE mark is not a warranty of ongoing conformity; systems can change after marking.

Defined in 2 GAGE programs, which carry 5 distinct definitions of it. The wording above is taught in EU AI Act Implementation Expert.

AI Governance: Applied Mastery

The visible mark (Article 48) a provider affixes to a high-risk AI system to signal that conformity assessment is complete and the provider takes responsibility. For digital systems it must be accessible in digital form; where a notified body was involved, its identification number accompanies the mark.

The conformity marking affixed to a high-risk AI system (or its packaging or accompanying documentation) by the provider to indicate conformity with the EU AI Act and other applicable EU harmonisation legislation. Governed by Articles 48 and 49 and may only be affixed after the required conformity assessment procedure is completed.

EU AI Act Implementation Expert

The visible symbol affixed to a high-risk AI system (or its packaging or accompanying documentation) indicating that the system has completed the required conformity assessment procedure and the provider has drawn up a valid EU declaration of conformity.
