Self-attestation

A safeguard in which a user is asked to confirm, typically by checking a box, that a stated fact (such as having permission to clone a voice) is true, with no independent verification that the confirmation is accurate. Consumer Reports' March 2025 assessment found self-attestation to be the only safeguard used by four of six tested voice cloning products.

Defined in 3 GAGE programs, which carry 3 distinct definitions of it. The wording above is taught in Senior AI Scam Defense.

Certified China AI Regulatory Professional (CCARP)

An organization's own internal, documented statement that it meets a given standard's requirements, without pursuing formal third-party certification. A common, less costly alternative to certification for a Small or early Medium organization, provided the self-attestation is backed by real evidence artifacts rather than a bare assertion.

AI Data Governance: The Data Chair

A weak access-control practice in which the holder of an access grant is asked directly whether they still need it, and confirms by default rather than through genuine reconsideration; distinguished from confirmation by an independent party such as a manager or data steward.
