Surveillance audit
An inspection conducted by the notified body during the validity period of a conformity certificate to verify that the provider's quality management system continues to operate and that the high-risk AI system continues to comply with Section 2 requirements. The basis under which the notified body may, under Article 44(3), suspend or withdraw a certificate if it finds the system no longer complies.

How each discipline defines it

A periodic re-audit that maintains a certification between full recertification cycles. It is why a certificate attests to conformity as of an audit rather than permanently; drift after an audit is not covered until a later audit catches it.
A periodic audit during the multi-year certification cycle that checks the management system is still operating between the initial certificate and recertification. It is why certification certifies a living system rather than a past event.
