The world's industrial robot safety standard was reissued in 2025, in two parts, for the robot and for the cell

ISO 10218-1:2025 and ISO 10218-2:2025 are the third and second editions of the industrial robot safety standard, both published in February 2025 by ISO technical committee 299. Part 1 treats the robot as partly completed machinery, part 2 covers integration of applications and cells, and part 2 runs to 223 pages.

What it changes

For a robot maker or a deployer

Your presumption of conformity, your customer's purchase order and your inspector's question all point at these two documents, and both were reissued in February 2025. If your safety file still cites the 2011 edition of part 1 or the 2011 edition of part 2, it is citing withdrawn text. Budget the gap analysis, because part 2 alone is 223 pages of integration requirements.
