  • ISO 3691-4:2023 is edition 2, published 2023-06, 74 pages, at stage 90.92, international standard to be revised.
  • Its examples of driverless industrial trucks include automated guided vehicle, autonomous mobile robot, bots, automated guided cart, tunnel tugger and under cart.
  • It covers trucks with automatic modes, trucks able to carry riders who are neither drivers nor operators, and trucks with additional manual modes.
  • The standard sits under ISO technical committee 110 on industrial trucks, not the robotics committee, which is why robot buyers often miss it.

What it changes

For a robot maker or a deployer

If you sell or deploy mobile robots in a warehouse, your standard lives in the industrial trucks committee and not in robotics, and calling your product an autonomous mobile robot does not move it. Check which edition your customer's specification names, because ISO has marked this one for revision and a new edition changes the acceptance tests you will be asked to pass.
