EU law: data centres above 500 kW must publish their performance

Article 12 of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EU) 2023/1791 requires Member States, from 15 May 2024 and every year after, to make owners and operators of data centres with installed IT power of at least 500 kW publish the information in Annex VII, and requires the Commission to run a European database of what they report.

For an operator, a utility or a community

An operator with a European site above 500 kW is already a reporting entity and does not get to choose. A utility should note that the duty sits on the data centre operator, not on the network, so the numbers it wants may be obtainable from the operator's own filing. A community in an EU Member State should know that aggregated national figures are meant to be public, while the individual site's numbers are not.
